As we bid farewell to 2023 and begin our 2024 journey, we can’t help but reflect on all that (RED) accomplished last year with the help of our incredible partners and supporters. With new partnership launches, iconic events, awesome content collaborations, and more, 2023 was one of our most impactful years yet.

From January through December, we brought people ringing people tons of new and exciting products and experiences that helped raise money and awareness for the fight to end AIDS and the injustices that allow it to thrive. Join us as we take a walk down 2023 memory lane.

January:

Broadway Skate Night Presented by Bank of America

(RED)UCATOR Javier Muñoz hosted Broadway Skate Night for (RED), presented by Bank of America. New Yorkers stopped by Bryant Parkfor a magical night of skating, show tunes, and giving back.

CustomCuff Launches Partnership with (RED)

(RED) unveiled its partnership with personalized jewelry brand CustomCuff, with 3% of the purchase price from every (CUSTOMCUFF)ᴿᴱᴰ product going to supporting the Global Fund. The generous initiative ensures a minimum donation of $100,000, contributing significantly to improving healthcare systems and promoting equitable access to HIV testing and treatment and sub-Saharan Africa.

Jennifer Lotito Publishes First Forbes Piece

(RED) President and COO, Jennifer Lotito, joined Forbes as a Contributor and published her first piece, “AIDS Is Still A Crisis – Here’s How We End It,” the first of 16 pieces throughout 2023.

April

Dayo Okeniyi and Laura Brown Travel to South Africa with (RED)

(RED)UCATOR Dayo Okeniyo and Chair of the (RED) Creative Council, Laura Brown, traveled to South Africa with (RED) to see (RED)’s work on the ground. The group visited (RED)-supported health programs across Johannesburg, Pretoria, and Cape Town that offer essential testing, treatment, and care services to key populations in the AIDS fight.

Apex Rising Charity Pro-Am Invitational 

(RED) became the official charity partner of the first ever Apex Rising Charity Pro-Am Invitational. 40 top pro-Apex Legends players from around the world teamed up with 80 amateur players, celebrities, and community members to raise money for the Global Fund to help fight AIDS.

OkayBears Announces Partnership with (RED)

After much anticipation, (RED) launched a partnership with OkayBears, a digital collectibles brand, and Web3 Community. Every purchase of an (OKAY)ᴿᴱᴰ digital collectible or merchandise contributes to (RED)’s fight against pandemics and the injustices that allow them to thrive by contributing to the Global Fund.

Lexi Underwood Hosts (RED) Supper

(RED)UCATOR Lexi Underwood brought together a dynamic assembly of change-makers, cherished friends, and family in Los Angeles to recount her impactful journey with (RED) in Africa. During the event, Underwood shared her personal experiences, along with the significant strides achieved in the ongoing battle against AIDS. Through the (RED) Supper, Lexi Underwood created the necessary space for open dialogue, fostering awareness and understanding about the progress made in the fight against these health challenges.

(RED) Talks Season 2 Kicks Off

Since 2021, (RED)’s dynamic digital conversation series, (RED) Talks, has brought together influential guests for engaging discussions on the day’s most pressing issues. In 2023, we kicked off season 2 of (RED) Talks with “From Harm to Hope: Harm Reduction in the Fight Against HIV,” generously sponsored by ViiV Healthcare. To mark Harm Reduction Day on May 7th, (RED)’s Jennifer Lotito sat down with Jenny Cozins, Director, Strategic Partnerships – Positive Action, ViiV Healthcare to discuss harm reduction in the AIDS fight, and efforts to reduce the risks associated with drug use that increase HIV infection rates.

This was the first of five (RED) Talks episodes in 2023.

IQVIA Announces Partnership with (RED)

At the World Resilience Summit, IQVIA announced its partnership with (RED) to raise $5 million for the Global Fund’s Laboratory Systems Integration Fund. Plus, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation will match every dollar from the partnership to the Global Fund.

Laura Brown and Phoebe Robinson Host (RED) Supper

(RED)UCATOR and (RED) Advisory Board member Phoebe Robinson and (RED) Creative Chair Council, Laura Brown, hosted an unforgettable (RED) Supper at New York City’s Algonquin Hotel, bringing together brilliant minds from a variety of industries to fight AIDS.

Carl Nassib Joins (RED) as a (RED)UCATOR

Former NFL player and Rayze app founder, Carl Nassib, became the newest ambassador for (RED)’s fight to end AIDS, using his platforms to sound the alarm on global health injustices and champion proven programs that save lives. He stopped by the (RED) office for a conversation with (RED)’s Jennifer Lotito on Instagram Live.

(RED) Celebrates Pride

(RED) celebrates the strength and power of the LGBTQIA+ community every month, but especially during June. Through various content pieces across our social and digital channels, we showcased inspiring stories and impactful initiatives. (RED)UCATORs Javier Muñoz and Carl Nassib stopped by the (RED) office for a powerful conversation about stigma, which you can watch below. (RED) also designed bespoke Pride t-shirts and shared engaging how-to videos to help people cut and customize the shirts in a several different ways.`

Chef Tolu Eros Joins (RED) as a (RED)UCATOR

Chef Tolu Eros, otherwise known as the Billionaire Chef, joined the (RED) family as our newest (RED)UCATOR. He hopped on an Instagram Live with (RED) to talk about his background and why he was inspired to join us in the fight to end AIDS.

Fiat Launches the All-New (600e)ᴿᴱᴰ 

(RED) partner Fiat announced the launch of the all-new, fully electric (600e)ᴿᴱᴰ. Every vehicle supports Fiat’s partnership with (RED) and helps save lives.

(RED) and Roche Team Up with Content Creators

(RED) and Roche teamed up with a group of awesome social media creators to drive urgency around the HIV/AIDS fight and inspire people to join us to help prevent the spread of HIV and ensure treatment is available for all.

Apple Releases Apple Watch Series 9 (PRODUCT)ᴿᴱᴰ

At their September event, Apple announced a new life-saving Apple Watch, which went on sale shortly thereafter. A portion of every Apple Watch Series 9 (PRODUCT)ᴿᴱᴰ goes to support the fight against AIDS.

Veronica Beard Kicks Off (RED) Partnership With In-store Event

(RED) and fashion brand Veronica Beard launched an exciting new partnership, which they kicked off with an event at Veronica Beard’s flagship store in SoHo in NYC. Jennifer Lotito, President and COO of (RED), Phoebe Robinson, (RED)UCATOR and member of the (RED) Advisory Board, and Laura Brown, (RED) Creative Chair Council, hosted an inspiring panel discussion on life-saving health programs for women and girls in sub-Saharan Africa.

(RED) Activates at Clinton Global Initiative 2023 Meeting

At the Clinton Global Initiative 2023 Meeting, our partner Fiat announced an expanded partnership with (RED) aimed at providing testing, treatment, and care for over 25,000 individuals affected by AIDS. The total commitment from Fiat, joined by Jeep and Ram, exceeded over $20 million in direct contributions to support the fight against AIDS. (RED) also teamed up with Brooklyn-based illustrator and graphic designer Sophia Yeshi to create a work of art live on-site, inspiring people to join (RED) in the fight to end AIDS and the injustices that allow it to thrive.

(RED) Nightcap Event at Goals House

(RED) brought together partners, supporters, and special guests at Central Park’s Tavern on The Green to celebrate (RED) delivering over $760 million to the Global Fund. This special night was made possible by Goals House, Salesforce, and our co-hosts, Chef José Andrés and (RED) Creative Council Chair Laura Brown. In addition to giving us a moment to celebrate the progress we’ve made, the Nightcap event also served as an opportunity to create more heat and energy around the critical work that remains ahead. Attendees also got a sneak peek at (RED)’s upcoming partnership with Lobos1707 tequila.

(RED) and The Global Fund Host “Power of Partnership” Breakfast

At the tail end of the United Nations General Assembly week, (RED) and the Global Fund co-hosted a breakfast to discuss the impactful dynamics of partnerships. The convening, which was generously sponsored by Merck, featured inspiring conversations that spotlighted the extraordinary action and game-changing innovations that will drive progress to end AIDS, TB and malaria by 2030.

(RED) TV Premieres

Amidst the hustle and bustle of a busy United Nations General Assembly Week, the (RED) Digital Team introduced (RED) TV, a captivating live series streamed across various social platforms. We discussed major UNGA week events and (RED) happenings and heighten awareness about the fight against health injustices.

International Day of the Girl Child

In honor of International Day of the Girl Child on October 11th, (RED) asked supporters to write to their inner girl about their aspirations for the future. Alongside this inspirational video, (RED) marked the day by shedding light on the health injustices that disproportionately impact women and girls.

(RED) Holiday Edit Begins

Just in time for holiday shopping, (RED) introduced The (RED) Holiday Edit, our definitive guide to giving and gifting that fights AIDS. Over the course of 25 days, (RED) showcased a collection of gifts, special events, sales, giveaways, and more.

New Red.org Rolls Out

(RED) reintroduced itself with a brand new website, making it easier than ever to access all the latest info about (RED), partnerships, and the AIDS fight.

Phoebe Robinson Announces Her Run for (RED)

(RED)UCATOR and (RED) Advisory Board member Phoebe Robinson announced that she’ll be running the Boston Marathon on April 15th, her first-ever marathon, in support of (RED), with a fundraising goal of $10,000.

Phoebe Robinson and Peloton’s Jeffrey McEachern Host World AIDS Day Run

(RED)UCATOR Phoebe Robinson and Peloton instructor Jeffrey McEachern hosted a special World AIDS Day run, accessible on-demand through the Peloton Tread and Peloton app+. Adding to the momentum, the iconic Sphere in Vegas lit up in support of (RED) and our partners.

Apple Offers Opportunities to Choose (RED) In Honor of World AIDS Day

From November 28th-December 8th, Apple donated $1 to The Global Fund for every purchase made with Apple Pay on apple.com, in the Apple Store app, or at an Apple Store. Plus, from December 1st to December 4th, some of (RED)’s favorite games turned (RED), with proceeds from eligible in-app purchases going directly to the Global Fund.

Holiday Edit Pop-Up at the Bank of America Winter Village at Bryant Park

Visitors were able to stop by the (RED) Holiday Edit in person at the Bank of America Winter Village at Bryant Park to indulge in delicious hot chocolate and enter to win exclusive prizes.

Auction of Nothing

Lake Bell and Laura Brown co-hosted a very special ‘Auction of Nothing’, in support of (RED) and the fight to end AIDS. Melissa McCarthy, Sarah Silverman, Allison Janney, Reggie Watts, Kiernan Shipka, Lily Rabe, Michaela Watkins and Lindsay Sloane, and many others gathered at Grandmaster Recorders in Hollywood, offering up a variety of hilarious “nothings” to go under the gavel of the evening’s auctioneer, Lake. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation matched every dollar raised.

Apex Rising Charity Pro-Am Invitational 2.0

(RED) was the proud charity partner of the second Apex Rising Charity Pro-Am Invitational, uniting Apex players globally for two thrilling nights of gameplay to raise funds in support of (RED)’s ongoing fight against AIDS.
