(RED) Rewind: Global Fund Replenishment 2019
On October 10th, world leaders came together in Lyon, France to make history, raising US$14 billion for the Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria. These pledges replenished the world’s “war chest” to fight HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis , and Malaria for the next three years.
In addition to the billions in pledges by governments, (RED) stepped up the fight committing $150 MILLION.
Of course, we couldn’t have made such a bold pledge without our partners. Bank of America, Salesforce, and Starbucks all renewed their support for the AIDS fight by extending their partnerships with (RED).
But we’re not just celebrating the funding; we’re celebrating the real impact that this money will unlock. Programs supported by The Global Fund’s have already saved 32 million lives. The pledges made at the replenishment conference will save an additional 16 million lives in the next three years.
Here’s a look at all that went down in France and around the world the week leading up to this amazing victory.
Lyon was Our Canvas — and We Painted it (RED)
In the days leading up to Replenishment, we revealed our final seven PAINT (RED) SAVE LIVES murals and installations to help drive heat and awareness around the AIDS fight.
The Palais des Congres, the location of Replenishment, also held an installation by The Inside Out Project. The ground was covered by the faces of 850 people who support the fight to end AIDS — the same number of women who contract HIV each day.
We took the fight to end AIDS to the streets
We took the fight to end AIDS to the streets with (RED) Ambassador Connie. Connie is HIV+ but her daughter Lubona was born HIV free thanks to life-saving HIV medication. We drove awareness of the power of this life-saving HIV medication with these paste ups all across the city of Lyon.
French Monuments Lit Up (RED)
At night, the city of Lyon turned (RED) to end AIDS. From City Hall, to the Justice Court, to the Confluence Museum, (RED) was everywhere to be found.
Current (RED) Partners and Collaborators Went All Out to Support Replenishment
In addition to the street art and (RED) monuments, tons of (RED) partners showed support for the Global Fund Replenishment and upcoming World AIDS Day.
Following the 2018 launch of the (MONTBLANC M)RED line, designed by Marc Newson, Cabin Trolley and Signature Writing Instruments.
A few days before the Replenishment Conference, Montblanc celebrated with a launch event in Paris. The Montblanc Champs Elysées boutique turned completely (RED), featuring an art installation on the façade of the building by Belgian artists Denis Meyeres and Anaud Kool. (RED) celebrities came out in full force to support the installation and raise awareness around the (MONTBLANC)RED partnership ahead of Replenishment.
On October 10th, Vespa activated top Piaggio dealers in Paris in support of the Global Fund Replenishment, with dedicated (RED) windows and the (VESPA 946)RED taking center-stage.
In Lyon, Salesforce and (RED) had a joint booth at the Palais de Congrès (AKA where the Replenishment conference was held). Tons of Replenishment Conference attendees stopped by to hear Connie and Lubona’s story and learn about the role technology plays in accelerating the fight to end AIDS. The booth also featured a (PRODUCT)RED display with an array of products from (RED) partners and a dedicated section about the PAINT (RED) SAVE LIVES campaign. PAINT (RED) SAVE LIVES merchandise was available for sale, with proceeds going directly to the Global Fund.
In support of its continued partnership with (RED), Balmain released more limited edition (BALMAIN)RED merchandise items, available for a limited time only. Proceeds from every (BALMAIN)RED t-shirt and (BALMAIN)RED water bottle sold will support (RED)’s fight to end AIDS.
During the week leading up to Replenishment, Alessi turned more than 30 products (RED) to generate money for the AIDS fight on Alessi.com and at Alessi stores in the U.K, France, Italy, and Germany. They also featured (RED) signage in their stores and even turned some of their storefronts (RED)!
…And We Teamed Up With New Partners!
During the lead up to Replenishment, HAPPN kicked off its partnership with (RED) by promoting PAINT (RED) SAVE LIVES on its app. Later this year, HAPPN will support (RED) SHOPATHON through ads and give users an opportunity to donate to (RED) in-app. Additionally, on World AIDS Day, HAPPN will donate 5% of Premium Subscription sales to fight AIDS.
Primark will launch its first ever (RED) Collection in support of World AIDS Day 2019, as part of a new international partnership. Stay tuned for more details soon!
Louis Vuitton introduced the Louis Vuitton I (RED) candle, composed by the House’s Master Perfumer Jacques Cavallier Belletrud, and designed by Marc Newson. Each candle sold will trigger a $60 donation to the Global Fund. The Louis Vuitton I (RED) candle is available in Louis Vuitton stores around the world.
Building on the brand’s long-standing support for the AIDS fight, agnès b will donate 20% of the retail price for select items from her “les forevers” permanent collection to the Global Fund. (agnès b.)RED products include a classic red snap cardigan for women, and a men’s logo print t-shirt available in France, the U.K. and the U.S.
Atelier Paulin will also join the upcoming (RED) SHOPATHON, offering a collection of four (RED) inspired, 14K gold-filled bracelets. 30% of the retail price from each bracelet will go to the Global Fund to fight AIDS – enough to provide 200 days of lifesaving medication.
There is much more work to be done, but today, we hope you’ll help us celebrate all that our incredible partners and supporters helped us accomplish around Replenishment in Lyon and beyond.
